I was hesitant and feeling
a bit insecure when I finally sucked it up and signed on
to Classmates. In my usual self-absorbed mode, I could hear
my former classmates say, "Cathy Yeo? Are you kidding?
She didn't graduate with us." And, you'd be right.
I graduated from Berean Christian after I left after my
sophomore year at HHS. My worst fears weren't realized,
however. Shelley sent me an email suggesting that I check
out the reunion pix and shortly thereafter, I spoke with
Susan Nymeyer and had a pleasant conversation.
My story is a bit lengthy, but it is a praise to our great
God. I hope you see it that way, too. After I graduated,
there was a stint at Liberty University (where my second
daughter ultimately attended on a full-ride softball scholarship)
and at a college in So CA. While working in Orange, I met
and married a Jewish believer. He was/is a well-known music
editor who did "City Slickers" and "When
Harry Met Sally," among many other big box office movies.
We had four children together. It was an acrimonious divorce
from him that taught me more about the infinite love the
Father has on this poor sinner (not a P C term). Growing
up, I somehow believed that God was an ogre only serving
as my judge. Ah, but He wasn't/isn't! When I ultimately
confessed my sin to a holy, just, merciful God, He buried
it in the deepest sea, never to be remembered (by Him, anyway).
While I don't usually talk much about my first marriage,
it is part of who I am and a testimony to the overwhelming
grace of God. I am no longer under condemnation (Roman 8:1)!--awesome
stuff...
I married Gene 21 years ago. We had six children together
(for a total of ten), but they are all our kids and there
has never been any distinction made. We have six daughters
(the oldest two are teachers) and four sons. My oldest son
and his wife live in Las Vegas, but are in the process of
selling their home and moving back to the San Francisco
Bay Area, where we have lived our entire married lives.
My next two sons attend college, the next three daughters
are a senior, junior and sophomore in high school and rounding
it out is an 11 year old son and an 8 year old daughter.
They all have hearts for God (so far). With the exception
of my youngest son, they are all athletic and all are rabid
A's fans. With ten kids, the odds are pretty good that at
least one of them won't allow me to placed in a rest home!
My husband, Gene, is a dear. He is a total braniac with
a degree in English and a supplemental in Chemistry. He
was a sports writer for many years with a large Bay Area
newspaper and presently, he is a high school AP and Honors
Chem teacher. We attend a nondenominational church with
solid biblical teaching where I sometimes play the keyboard
and where Gene has taught a small group Bible study.
I could go on and on, and I usually do, but I'll stop by
saying thanks for the opportunity to share a slice of my
life with you. I enjoyed so much reading your bios, but
mostly, I appreciated your walk with God. That is so refreshing.
I will close w/this passage:
24"The God who made the world and everything in it
is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples
built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as
if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men
life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made
every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole
earth; and he determined the times set for them and the
exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that
men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find
him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28'For in
him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your
own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'" Acts
17:24-28
